Bathroom Makeover: After Pics

Today was my self-imposed deadline to have the bathroom project done, and I met it by about 45 minutes. My mom came early for my pie party and helped me get the frame put together and hung.

The counter top is far from perfect - you can see brush strokes where the light hits it - but it's still way better than the original.

So, here are the before and afters! I'm loving the new look.
Original counter top from 1977, after I tiled the floor in 2008.

The first refinish was coated with Polyacrylic and it yellowed and stained almost immediately.

This month, before painting or adding mirror frame; counter top partially re-refinished.
Done! New color on the walls, counter top and mirror frame painted and sealed.

The mirror frame is hung on the mirror with some little J-shaped brackets from Home Depot.

  1. It looks great- SO much better! I'm impressed with how you tackle these projects. I may have to use your mirror frame idea in my condo. We couldn't get the old mirrors off the walls without causing major damage and so had to mount the new, higher cabinets right up againt the mirror, which means you can see the unfinished backside of the countertop. I think a frame would fix that problem. Brilliant!

  2. Home Depot has lots of primed trim for less than $1/foot, and the hardware was under $5. Go for it!

  3. I love the finished look the frame gives the mirror - and the entire room. And before this project, I had no idea you could paint a countertop.
    Fabulous makeover!

    1. Thanks! It actually makes the room look bigger, and it's already a nice size with two doors.

I probably wouldn't paint a kitchen countertop and expect it to wear well, but for a bathroom used by one person it's a good fix.
